Nortel aims to close Nokia deal by August

Nortel Networks Corp. aims to close its $650-million (U.S.) deal to sell wireless assets to Nokia Siemens Networks by the end of August.
Nortel, which filed for protection from creditors in January, wants the courts to sign off on the deal by July 30 and has recommended July 21 as the cut-off date for any rival bids, Ernst and Young Inc., the court-appointed monitor.

TCS loses Rs 225 cr e-governance deal: report

Sukhdeo Thorat, chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) and a favourite of former human resource development minister Arjun Singh, is in dock for allegedly favouring Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in the bidding process for its e-governance project, a media report said on Thursday.

The matter has now reached the Prime Minister's Office, which has sought a report from the ministry, the DNA newspaper reported. It said a vigilance inquiry has found "several irregularities" in the tendering process of UGC's Rs 225 crore e-governance project.

Industry lauds Nilekani’s appointment

The industry lauded Government’s move to appoint Mr Nandan Nilekani as head of the Unique Identification Authority, though analysts were divided on the impact of his exit from Infosys.
“Nilekani was the biggest brand ambassador for Infosys on the clients’ side and had personal access to the board rooms of many large global firms. It would be a set back for the company,” said Mr Sudin Apte, Head of Forrester Research in India.

Infosys invests Rs 63-cr in overseas subsidiaries

IT major, Infosys Technologies, has incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 63 crore in its three loss-making subsidiaries in China, Mexico and the US, the company said in its annual report.
We have invested Rs 22-crore each in Infosys Mexico and Infosys Consulting Inc based in Texas, US, while making an additional investment of Rs 19 crore in Infosys China during FY 09,' Infosys Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, said in the report.
The company has invested Rs 193-crore ($45-million) in Infosys Consulting, which includes an investment of Rs 81 crore in FY 08.
