Chandrasekaran to succeed Ramadorai as TCS chief

Tata Consultancy Services said on Tuesday that its current Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr N. Chandrasekaran, will take over as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director from October 6, 2009.
He will replace the 64-year-old Mr S. Ramadorai who has been with TCS since 1971 and has been its Managing Director and CEO since 1996. Mr Chandrasekaran, 45, was appointed COO of TCS 21 months ago and was also promoted as Executive Director. He takes over at a time when the Indian IT industry is seeing a decline in IT spend from customers, courtesy the economic downturn.
